I have an external WD 320GB hard disk. The disk space when checked is 0 bytes. When I open it I get "F: is not accessible, access is denied." But in the disk management it appears as if its healthy. Can anyone suggest a way to end this issue.External hard drive access denied

  • Right-click the file or folder of which you wish to take ownership and select the <Properties> from the menu.
  • Select the <Security> tab in the upper portion of the properties dialog box. You might be asked if you want to change <security settings>
  • Click the <OK> button to proceed.
  • Click the <Advanced> tab and then click the <Owner> tab to reach the Ownership Settings screen.
  • Select your operating system user name from the list directly below the <Name> heading.
  • Click the <OK> button.

(This adds your user name to the list of file or folder owners. If your account is an administrative account, you gain all access – which includes viewing, copying, and deletion privileges -- to the targeted file or folder)
